Jain Samosa From Raw Banana (Katcha kela)



  • Mix the flour, salt, ghee and salt togather to make a soft dough (add more water as needed).
  • knead the dough for about 1 to 2 minutes to make the dough smooth and pliable.
  • Set the dough aside and cover it with damp cloth. Let the dough sit for at least 15 minutes.

Ingredients for Jain Samosa:

  • 2 boiled raw bananas
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1/2 tsp dried mango powder (amchur)
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • Lemon juice
  • Mint leaves (pudina) (optional)
  • Corainder (optinal)
  • Giner paste (optional)
  • salt to taste

Method for making Jain Samosa filling:

  • Heat oil in pan and add the cumin seeds.
  • When the seeds crackle, add the green chillies, ginger paste, turmeric powder and salt, lemon juice, mix well and saute for 1 minute.
  • Add the bananas, coriander, mint leaves and mix well.
  • Remove from the flame and keep aside to cool.

Method for making Jain samosa patti

  • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • Make round shape chapatis of the dough
  • Divide each chapati into three long pieces and make a cone of each strip.
  • Stuff a cone with a portion of the prepared filling.
  • Seal the edges carefully with the help of the flour-water paste.
  • Repeat the steps for making more samosas.
  • Heat the oil in kadhai and deep-fry a few samosas at a timr on a medium flame till they turn crisp and golden brown in colour from all the sides.
  • Drain on an absorbent paper and serve hot with green chutney or imli chutney or ketchup
